Dr. Gross' Credentials & Resume

MORE THAN 30 YEARS EXPERIENCE

Warm, Personal, Goal-Oriented, Active Help
By a NJ and NY Licensed Psychologist

Please note: This website describes my credentials, expertise, and services as a Licensed Psychologist. For a similar description in my capacity as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, please go to my other website www.MarriageCounselorNJ.com

I am a highly trained, credentialed, experienced and caring Ph.D. psychologist serving Bergen County for 30 years. In addition to my licensure as a Psychologist by the New Jersey Board of Psychologists,  I’ve been Board Certified as a Diplomate in Psychotherapy by the American Board of Psychotherapists, because of my advanced training and skills as a psychotherapist. I am also Board Certified as a Diplomate in Clinical Psychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology.

I’ve been in private practice for 30 years in Teaneck, NJ; and was formerly in New York City where I am also a licensed Psychologist. Concurrent with my private clinical practice, I have also conducted counseling and psychotherapy at various mental health clinics, taught psychology as a college professor, trained and supervised physician therapists in their clinical work with patients as a faculty member of a hospital-based Psychiatric Residency Training Program, supervised graduate students in psychology, lectured to seminary students on pastoral psychology, and supervised practicing clergy in their day-to-day pastoral counseling.

In addition to my work as a therapist with individuals,  I also do premarital and couple counseling in both my private practice and by conducting workshops and communication seminars for premarital and married couples at the Teaneck Community Adult Education Center.  For more information on my services to couples (premarital or married) please visit my other website: www.MarriageCounselorNJ.com.

My approach as a therapist is warm, personal, active, and goal-oriented.  Because of my training in different techniques for therapy including the psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, and solution-oriented approaches, and my many years of experience, I have employed a variety of methods over the past three decades and am not locked into any single school of psychotherapy. I will help you address your problems with a variety of approaches depending on your individual needs, and I’m geared to working with you as rapidly as possible. I will interact with you in an informal manner, and will treat you with respect, dignity, and compassion. Your confidentiality is well protected because of professional ethical codes for psychologists, relevant state regulations, as well as the quiet setting of a private practice.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT DURING YOUR FIRST CALL?

Since my  practice is not part of a psychiatric hospital, clinic or mental health center, but rather that of a sole practitioner in private practice, I answer my own phone.  There is no charge for an initial phone conversation during which I’ll spend time with you sympathetically exploring your reasons for the call and discussing the various options open to you. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have about crisis intervention, short-term counseling or psychotherapy (usually referred to simply as therapy), and will help you understand what you can reasonably expect from the process.  If you would like to meet with me to explore your situation further, or begin treatment, we can set up an appointment at that time.

Because of my training in different therapeutic modalities, varied staff affiliations, and broad range of clientele served in Bergen County, New Jersey and New York, NY,  I will approach your individual or couple relationship problems with a richer perspective and insight. I will help you recognize emotional logjams, repetitive patterns of behavior,  vicious cycles in your interactions with others, and will assist you in overcoming  them as quickly as possible. This process includes helping you understand, evaluate and  free yourself of distortions in thinking, emotions or behaviors that you bring to your present situation. The goal is to unlock your energies so that you will be free to develop all of your skills, be the most that you can be and lead the kind of life that you choose and with whom you choose. I will suggest you consult with any other specialist that I believe can contribute to an evaluation of --or solution to-- your problems and who might serve as an adjunct to the therapeutic process. I will take a comprehensive interest in your life and will interact actively with you during your sessions, recommend reading or specific activities if I think they will hasten the attainment of your goals.

If you have any further questions about what you have read so far, I am readily available by phone or email to answer your questions, help you ascertain your counseling needs and goals, explain my services and fee structure, help you look into your insurance coverage, or discuss scheduling an appointment.
